At Home (2024) is a personal exploration and documentation of friendship and collective memory within my circle of the queer, transgender community here in the SF Bay Area inspired by the avant-garde documentary style of Toshio Matsumoto’s Funeral Parade of Roses (1969) and his other experimental work. At Home is made to honor the experiences and fortitude it has taken for its subjects to live authentically and build a meaningful, intentional community with each other. Through interviews, observational footage, and the compilation of photos and videos taken and contributed by the subjects, At Home intimately depicts their lives, showcasing the resilience and love that permeate throughout their existence as they navigate a world that often marginalizes their identities. At Home is a time capsule of queer determination. It is an archive of my love for the people who have been there for me and there for each other time and time again.
This is a shortened version of a project I will be expanding upon through 2025...
Through this project, I hope to contribute a more inclusive, realistic lens to the diverse lives that make up the queer and transgender community, especially during the current rise of anti-transgender and gender non-conforming violence and hate speech taking place in America.
